The market for surgical antimicrobial products is driven by hospital acquired infections that lead to 271 deaths per day costing $5-10 billion per annum in the US. Currently hospitals are not reimbursed for this cost by the Government.
Additionally super bugs (such as MRSA) are becoming a more prevalent cause of hospital acquired infections. For these reasons hospital are looking for products that provide prolonged antimicrobial activity. Mast-R-Prep has outperformed the current market leader chlorhexidine-based surgical skin prep products in human efficacy testing.
